Honouring a Legacy of Giving: Battlefords Empty Stocking Fund Christmas Campaign
The Battlefords Empty Stocking Fund (ESF) began in the 1950s when CJNB radio brought the community together to support families in need during the Christmas season. What started as a local act of kindness has grown into a lasting tradition of compassion and generosity.
Today, as a registered charity, ESF proudly continues this legacy by providing Christmas hampers filled with enough food to last through the school holidays, along with a special gift for every child. These hampers bring not only nourishment, but also comfort, dignity, and hope to families across the Battlefords.
This year, the Battlefords District Food & Resource Centre is deeply grateful for the extraordinary generosity of Theresa Kohlberg, a lifelong Battlefords resident who dedicated her life to supporting local causes. In her passing, Theresa chose to give back once again, donating to five Battlefords charities, including the Empty Stocking Fund.
Through her generosity, the BDFRC Empty Stocking Fund Christmas Campaign received $75,000 a remarkable gift that will help bring comfort and joy to countless families during the holiday season.
Theresa’s kindness is a powerful reminder of what community truly means. Every donation, whether big or small, helps fill a hamper, feed a family, and brighten a child’s Christmas.
