Help Us Scare Away Hunger

Help Us Scare Away Hunger!

September was a busy month at the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre. We helped over 2,200 people with food, and 53% of them were children.

Behind those numbers are families trying to make ends meet. Parents stretching groceries until payday. People trying to cover rent, utilities and food, only to find there simply isn’t enough left.

With the cost of living so high, more families are turning to us for help. Demand is growing, while donations are down. Our team is working hard to keep our shelves stocked and food available for those who need it.

We receive no core funding. The support of our community is what keeps us going.

To everyone who has donated food, contributed financially, volunteered or organized a food drive: thank you. We are deeply thankful for the care you have shown our neighbours. Your support has helped us keep going and put food on families’ tables, even as the need continues to grow.

This October, we’re asking you to help us “Scare Away Hunger.”

One wonderful way to help is through JPII Collegiate’s Annual We Scare Hunger Food Drive. On Wednesday, October 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., students and staff will go door to door collecting non-perishable food donations for the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre.

If they visit your home, please consider having a few items ready to donate. You can also help by sharing the food drive details with friends, neighbours and on social media. We are so grateful to the JPII students and staff for once again putting their time and energy into helping our community.

You can also donate food directly to us, make a financial contribution via etransfer or in-person, or organize a small collection at work or with friends. A Halloween gathering can be a simple opportunity to invite guests to bring a food donation.

We know many people are feeling the squeeze themselves. Please give only what you can. Every contribution adds up, and together, those small acts of kindness make a meaningful difference.

Hunger can be a frightening worry for a family. With your help, we can ease that worry and remind people they have a community beside them.

Thank you for helping us keep going. Let’s Scare Away Hunger together.
