Celebrating Accreditation Excellence with Food Banks Canada
As we welcome 2026, we look back with pride on the collective progress made across Canada’s food bank network in 2025. Food Banks Canada continues to champion the Standards of Excellence, ensuring food banks operate with accountability, transparency, and a shared commitment to serving communities with dignity and care.
More than 155 food banks nationwide have now received accreditation, an important milestone that reflects the dedication, collaboration, and hard work of organizations across the country. As the March 2026 accreditation deadline approaches, Food Banks Canada remains committed to supporting food banks and provincial associations through updated resources, guidance, and continued engagement.
To help eligible food banks complete their accreditation while maintaining access to funding, an extension process will be in place starting January 2026. Extensions will be granted only in limited and specific circumstances. Food Banks Canada has also released updated Standards Guides and FAQs, offering clearer guidance on accreditation requirements, available supports, and ongoing learning opportunities such as newsletters, peer support sessions, and webinars.
We are proud to recognize Saskatchewan food banks that have successfully met the Food Banks Canada Standards and achieved accreditation. Out of 36 food banks in the province, 17 are now accredited, along with Food Banks of Saskatchewan.
Among those recognized is the Battlefords District Food & Resource Centre, whose accreditation reflects a strong commitment to excellence, best practices, and community service. This achievement demonstrates the organization’s dedication to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality support to those they serve.
Accreditation is more than a benchmark, it represents a shared commitment to strengthening food security and building resilient communities. We look forward to continuing this important work together in the year ahead.
Thank you to all staff, volunteers, and partners for your continued support and hard work.
