A Review of 2021

Thank you to the community for their support to the Battlefords District Food & Resource Centre(BDFRC)/ Empty Stocking Fund (ESF). As a nonprofit charity with no core funding, we rely heavily on wonderful donors such as yourselves.

This past year we helped around 1050 people a month through the food bank, 44% of those helped were children. We strive to distribute a healthy well-rounded food hamper, which includes dairy, protein and fresh produce.

This year the Empty Stocking Fund distributed 426 Christmas Hampers over 4 days, right before the holidays; 54% of people registered for the ESF Hamper were children who also received a gift.

Our Food for Kids program distributed around 130 bags of food per week for children throughout the school year.

Through our Share the Warmth/Coats for Kids program, we have distributed over 100 winter jackets. We will continue to do so while the weather is cold and the need is there.

During tax season, we hold free income tax clinics for those who are low income. This past tax season we have completed over 400 income tax returns.

In 2021, we collaborated with Midwest Foods Resource to grow our own fresh produce for the food bank. This pilot project yielded over 1000lbs for our clients! We hope to continue with the garden project again this year and add classes for those wishing to learn how to grow their own food.

As an essential service in our community, your support allowed us to remain open and help families who are struggling with food insecurity in the Battlefords and the surrounding area throughout the year.
