1,220 People Helped in Just 16 Days and the month Isn’t Over
In just the first 16 days of September, the Battlefords District Food & Resource Centre has already helped 1,220 people through our food bank. That’s about 7% of our entire community in just over two weeks.
Nearly half (46%) of those we served were children. kids who should be focused on homework and friends, not whether there will be food on the table. Another 8% were seniors, many quietly struggling while living on fixed incomes. The rest were working-age adults and families doing their best to stretch already-tight budgets.
September has always been one of our busiest months. With the back-to-school season, families face added pressure: extra meals, snacks, and costs that quickly overwhelm tight budgets. This year, the need is greater than ever.
Behind each number is a real story:
- A child who can go to school with a full stomach.
- A senior who no longer has to choose between groceries and medication.
- A family who can breathe easier knowing there will be supper tonight.
Every hamper we hand out and every meal we provide is a lifeline, but we can’t keep up with this growing need alone.
Here’s how you can help right now:
- Donate food items from our Most Wanted Items list.
- Make a financial donation so we can buy fresh produce, milk, and other essentials.
- Share this post to encourage others in our community to get involved.
Together, we can make sure September is about fresh starts, full bellies, and hope for the months ahead not hunger. 💙
